Biking

Ken took some great pics of the kids and I biking around our cul-de-sac a few weeks ago...

Lunch time with Bro

Today at lunch Brody and I enjoyed a bit of laughter after I copied a sound he made (kinda like a parrot) and he thought it was hilarious. It went on awhile then I turned on the camera to capture it!

Puffed wheat treats... he seems to be enjoying testing gravity out lately.

I did it!

Brody's first sentence which he has been saying for awhile is "I did it". He'll often say it by himself, or if prompted. Here is a video I captured it on:

I'm also pretty sure that Brody has a name for Melissa... he calls her "A". I noticed it one night as he did it in the same tone that I always do :P I'll have to get it on video one time too ;)

Mama & Kids Picnic

The other night Ken had to leave for work, so the kids and I picked up our spirits by going for a picnic.

Melissa entertained us with her acrobatics!

Brody cheered her on!

Time to head home...

Bus Stop Pick-up with Daddy

Melissa was thrilled when Daddy showed up to pick her up on her trail-a-bike. All the kids stared at her as she hopped on the whizzed on home :)

Rollerblading in P.E.

I was quite surprised when a notice came home that Melissa's school was having the students do rollerblading in gym. A company brings in the rollerblades and helmets for all the kids. Kind of a neat concept they certainly didn't do when I was a kid! I popped in and took some pics and a video. Keep in mind this was their first day, and they were a little shaky!

Melissa is the one moving very cautiously (she doesn't like to fall!). She is in the right corner at the beginning of the video, then helping a friend up, and then slide/walking past the open door closer to the end of the video. She certainly isn't as entertaining as many of the other kids... haha!

Mouse Day

During the months of April & May Melissa's class enjoyed raising mice. Her teacher brought in a pregnant mouse which gave birth to 10 babies (of which 5 survived). Parents were invited to a special Mouse Day Open House in the classroom to watch them perform songs and poems they had been busy practicing.

Melissa played the role of the cat! (which suited her just fine)

I sat at her desk, and couldn't help but notice the inner chaos!

Melissa showing her paper mouse...
 and plasticine creations...

I got to meet the little guys which have had their fun sitting on each kids desk and being observed... how the kids focused is beyond me! I applaud her teachers for such a wonderful way of teaching the children.

In the end one of her classmates took the mice home. She had heard what happened to the mice when the teacher took them back to the pet store... they were destined to be snake food. So her mom agreed they could take one home. After much thought, they couldn't decide which one deserved to be saved from this tragedy, so they took them all!

Excitement in Melissa's World

Melissa's developed this burning desire for an American Girl doll after seeing one of her friend's. She then saved up her birthday money to spend on getting her new BFF... which she has named Julia. Now she needs to save up money to buy her clothes!

In other Melissa news, her class has been studying chickens. Her class got an incubator with 6 eggs and they counted down 21 days till their arrival. On day 21 - I got a phone call that 3 had hatched, so Brody and I came to see the new chicks :)

Mother's Day

(Yes I'm behind in blogging... but I'm catching up!)

Mother's Day we celebrated with Ken's side of the family at Uncle Dennis & Aunt Gayle's house. The weather was beautiful and actually rather warm. They had just opened their pool for the season, and Melissa was thrilled to get in for a swim!

Nana and Brody...

Little Shopper

This past week Brody went on his first shopping trip sitting in the shopping cart seat! Before this I had always kept him in his carseat or in the stroller. There was so much to see and reach for!
