Porteau Cove - Day 4

Day 4 of our Porteau Cove we headed into the town of Squamish and explored their downtown strip. It had some neat and some interesting vendors which we browsed through. 

Back at the cabin we had some visitors! First off was this squirrel named "Nuts" and his friend "Rainbow" (another squirrel). Nuts was super friendly this day and startled us by climbing on the chairs and our legs! Obviously they are used to having people around - I'm sure feeding them. 

At dinner time we were joined by Nani & Papa! Oh the children were thrilled to show them everything! We took them for a walk to the pier...

As well as another beach area (the tide was in)...

Brody once again diligently filled a bucket with water while Nani held it :)

Kids all cleaned up... begging not to go to be just yet! 

 

Porteau Cove - Day 3

Another day in paradise! We woke to the sound of the kids giggling in the bunk bed...

We went for a little excursion to Shannon Falls... 

It was a short hike...

to a magnificent waterfall, I'm pretty sure the largest one I've seen. (The photo truly doesn't do it justice.)

Back at home base Melissa had established (or taken over establishment) a fort in the brush in front of our cabin...

The tide had gone out this afternoon and the kids went hunting for sea life under the rocks...

and found many crabs!

Porteau Cove - Day 2 - Britannia Mine Museum

One of the "must see" places of our trip to Porteau Cove was the Britannia Mine Museum. We just so happened to be there on their busiest day of the year! We found out at the end of the day that there was a museum pass that people could use to Britannia Mine Museum only this one day... go figure! We just thought it was a crazy popular attraction with parking all down the streets etc!

Brody was absolutely amazed by this enormous dump truck! 

We ended up chopping the trip into 2 stints as Brody was in desperate need of his beauty sleep!

Meanwhile Ken and Melissa went hunting for sea life in the ocean...

Back at the mine we tried our hand at gold panning. Turned out we all really enjoyed it! Perhaps a new family hobby? 

I think Brody was pleased to see us all having so much fun playing in the water & sand with him!

Didn't take long for Brody to get himself wet and dirty! (this was just the start - I didn't capture a photo of him at the very end - he was soaked!)

 

We all hopped aboard the train into the mine...

We had a tour guide (a retired miner) who gave us a great presentation of how things were and are today in the mining industry. 

Back at the cabin Melissa sorted all the loot that we collected gold panning... (missing from the photo are 2 flakes of actual gold that yours truly found!)

After diner we went on a bike ride through the campsite to a part of the beach that we had spotted the previous day. I found this unique piece of driftwood...

Daddy and the kids enjoyed throwing rocks into the ocean...

A wholehearted two-thumbs-up!

Porteau Cove Cabin - Day 1

We feel so blessed to live in such a beautiful part of the world! We found this wonderful cabin in Porteau Cove - not much more than 1 hour drive from home - on the way to Whistler. Renting it was a bit of a leap of faith as the website wasn't overly informative and only showed 5 skewed photos. Our socks were blown off when we arrived to take in the beauty of the cabin and the location! We only wished we could have stayed longer than the 5 days we had rented it for! And the weather was ah-maz-ing! We took around 400 photos! In order for it to not be overwhelming, (for me or the reader) I'm going to break it up by days. So day one was Monday and we arrived after check-in (3pm) and moved in and then headed down to the ocean to check it out.

Brody faithfully filled his bucket over and over with small shovelfuls of water, then dumped it out! 

The beach was lined with logs. This one made a great climbing apparatus for Melissa...

And climb to the top of it she did!

The kids had a real hard time going to sleep, likely due to the new location and so much excitement...

Canada Day Parade

It was a super hot day this Canada Day! 

We still enjoyed taking in the annual parade & local festivities...

The fam...
